Our projects

BFRP's work spans three connected areas: collaborative research projects, consulting and advisory engagements, and dialogue and training formats. The formats differ, the goal is the same: translating evidence into policy and institutional practice.

Research Projects

We initiate and contribute to national and European research projects on democratic resilience, online harms, and the governance of digital technologies, typically as part of interdisciplinary, multi-country consortia. Our contributions range from empirical research to stakeholder engagement, policy translation, and the systematic tracking of policy uptake.

Consulting & Advisory

We advise ministries, public authorities, civil-society organizations, foundations, media organizations, and companies on responsible technology governance and organizational resilience. Engagements are tailored to each client, from short expert input to longer-term advisory mandates.

Typical engagements include:

AI & platform governance — risk and impact assessments, accountability frameworks, and readiness for European rules such as the DSA and the AI Act

Technology auditing — structured reviews of digital tools, data practices, and their organizational and societal effects

Safeguarding & organizational response — supporting organizations in preventing and responding to (technology-facilitated) violence and harassment

Evidence for policy — evidence reviews, expert statements, and background analyses for legislative and regulatory processes

Dialogue & Training

We design and facilitate formats that bring research, policy, and practice into productive exchange, and that build lasting capacity within organizations.

Our formats include:

High-level roundtables & policy labs — structured dialogue among policymakers, regulators, platforms, media, and civil society, designed to produce commitments rather than just exchange

Co-creation workshops — developing guidelines, protocols, and tools together with the institutions that will use them

Training & capacity building — from newsroom and civil-society trainings to train-the-trainer programs

Talks & briefings — keynotes, expert briefings, and teaching on our research themes
